Do you know what your favorite verse in the Bible is? At church today we will have a small group attending because most of our members will be at a marriage seminar located at one of our sister churches. So, they have decided to have an interactive service where the congregation shares their favorite verse in scripture and why. When I read the email I thought 🤔 hmmmm.. what is my favorite Bible verse?
My favorite chapter has always been Matthew 5... the sermon on the mount. I remember the first time I read through Matthew chapter five as a teenager. I had heard so many people say that the law had been done away with. Nailed to the cross they would say when I would speak of going to church on the Sabbath as a child. But when I read this beautiful chapter, all I could see was the opposite. Jesus had enhanced the law. He actually went through many of the ten commandments and it became even clearer that murder could actually take place without the physical action of murder. 21 "Ye have heard that it was said by them of old time, Thou shalt not kill; and whosoever shall kill shall be in danger of the judgment:22But I say unto you, That whosoever is angry with his brother without a cause shall be in danger of the judgment: and whosoever shall say to his brother, Raca, shall be in danger of the council: but whosoever shall say, Thou fool, shall be in danger of hell fire."
I thought well I love chapter 5 of Matthew but as a whole. I could not choose just one verse. So, I prayed and God showed me right where to go to find my favorite Bible verse. Psalm 30:5 "For his anger endureth but a moment; in His favour is life: weeping may endure for a night, but joy cometh in the morning." Read that verse again. Meditate on what this verse if saying. God's anger is a moment and when I looked in the concordance it says "a twinkling of an eye". 😲 How amazing is Our God. When we get angry sometimes we tend to hold on to it for days, weeks even years. In His favour is life.....favour means His desire. His desire for us is LIFE everlasting. We may weep for a night the way David did when he was fasting and praying over his son who was sick but Joy comes in the morning. He lost his son but he was blessed with Soliman who was able to finish his father's work to build a temple for God, Solomon's temple.
We may go through hard days, times, and years but remember that God is weeping with you. Remember that we fall short of the glory of God but His anger is but for a moment and we can come to Him with true repentance and He accepts it. He forgives and asks us to go and sin now more. He loves us with an everlasting love and wants to bring peace and joy to our lives. What a Mighty God we serve.
Today, ponder on what is my favorite verse. Ask God to show you. It may be a verse that will help you through whatever you are facing at the moment and He is longing for you to come to Him so He can show you the verse that will bring you joy! Come all who are heavy laden He pleads, come!
Also, comment below your favorite Bible verse and why.....we would love to be encouraged by God through you as well!
