Sanctified Saturday- Carnal mind versus The Spirit!

I don't watch television anymore but when I did I remember in the movies they would portray someone with a devil on one shoulder and an angel on the other. This scene was to represent our conscience, telling us to either choose something good or evil.

We have a carnal mind and have the opportunity to live in the spirit through the Holy Spirit. Our carnal mind is represented by the devil. It is always telling us that it's okay to do something no matter what because it is something we want or even sometimes deceives us into thinking it is something we need. The angel represents the Spirit living in us and choosing to do what is right no matter what we want or desire.

This is a real battle just as the television shows. Normally the devil and the angel in the movie are arguing and the person is stuck between trying to decide what to do. I have this battle all the time within myself. I have what I want versus what is best or right. We all have this struggle.

The truth is whatever we decide to feed whether it be the carnal mind or the Spirit within us, whichever is fed will win the battle. If we decide to pour into our minds junk TV, music, foods, or actions then the carnal mind will grow stronger and the Spirit will die out. But if we choose today to surrender to the Spirit and listen to our music, go for a walk instead of watch TV, eat healthy and do actions that God is pleased with, then the carnal mind will die. We will be successful in dying to self if we surrender to God and starve the carnal mind.

Romans 8:6-11

6 For to be carnally minded is death; but to be spiritually minded is life and peace. 7 Because the carnal mind is enmity against God: for it is not subject to the law of God, neither indeed can be. 8 So then they that are in the flesh cannot please God. 9 But ye are not in the flesh, but in the Spirit, if so be that the Spirit of God dwell in you. Now if any man have not the Spirit of Christ, he is none of his. 10 And if Christ be in you, the body is dead because of sin; but the Spirit is life because of righteousness. 11 But if the Spirit of him that raised up Jesus from the dead dwell in you, he that raised up Christ from the dead shall also quicken your mortal bodies by his Spirit that dwelleth in you.
